Creating the Next Generation of Microentrepreneurs in Mexico

Our Goal
To enable 80 youth to gain the skills necessary to create successful businesses and/or to increase their earning potential.

Funding Required
$25,000

Credit and Business Development Needs in Mexico
In Mexico, many marginalized youth cannot break the cycle of poverty into which they have been born. Many lack a formal education, often never having made it past the third grade. Typically, these youth work in their parents’ microenterprises, which are at risk of failure given their owners’ lack of education and training. The precarious nature of these businesses also impacts local residents through the poor quality of services offered.

Project Activities
This project will enable 80 youths to gain the skills necessary to create successful businesses and increase their earning potential. It was designed to inspire young people and to teach them practical business skills. It will provide training in business and financial skills, including basic accounting, sales, and cash flow management.

For those interested in starting their own business, they will be trained to create a business and will be provided with credit and technical assistance through follow-up site visits. Others will be trained as business consultants in order to strengthen local businesses in their own communities.

Our Partner
CAME, a Mexican nonprofit organization and affiliate of The Resource Foundation, promotes sustainable employment and self-reliance for low-income individuals through savings, credit, and revenue generation. Its microenterprise program utilizes an innovative version of the village banking methodology. Currently it offers high-quality financial services to more than 133,000 clients in 68 branches.
